Living room Redwood going up!

Starting on the living room ceiling!!! COVERING UP THE UGLY!!! I say that all the time. :) It makes me happy. SO thankful we could do this.

First boards going up!

All done and we are loving it!! We are supposed to do trim, but it sounds like a lot of work and I like the way it looks now. Maybe in the future.

Coat Closet Demolition Derby

The entryway was a problem. Not only was there an oddly placed door right next to the front door, but they were different colors! And the closet was not easily accessible. It was very cramped. So, what do we do? We RIP THE WALLS DOWN!!! Ok, not really, but the door came off, the frame came off, and Kevin saw cut the wall so the opening was taller and wider. We have big plans for it, and will get to it soon.

Taking the door out the, well, door. :)

Saw cutting the opening to make it bigger.

Ripped out the hanging rack and finishing touches on the saw cuts.

This is the storage at the back its pretty long and narrow. Not sure exactly what is going there but I am thinking of ripping the shelving out and putting a hanging rack down the left hand side with a shelf on top.

All ripped out and ready for the finishing touch!
Ripping up the flooring

Kevin ripping up the flooring and the pine wainscoting that is going inside.

cute linoleum that we uncovered

redwood up, pine started. much better!

ceiling done, light fixture changed, and first pine panel set

New bench from Lowes, and hooks

bench!

And, done for now!! I finally primed the wall, so it looks much better! We still need to trim out the doorway, and put flooring, but those things are waiting for a while.

Ceiling prep

Our redwood is here!!! We ordered a bunch of redwood through my father in law, we got it for a heck of a deal! Now the work begins.

My dear husband getting ready for a long day of spraying lacquer on all of the boards.

We rented a sprayer from a local equipment rental place and got some lacquer from Sherwin Williams. The guy was supposed to sell us semi-gloss, and gave us satin instead. Oh well, we used it anyway. It turned out fine after a few practice boards.

SO pretty!!! We stacked them all to dry, and unfortunately some of them were still a little tacky, so we had to sand a bunch of the boards before putting them up. Or rather Rudy, the guy that put them up for us, had to sand. Lol!

A friend ripping out the hideous flourescent lighting in the kitchen.

another shot of lighting getting ripped out.

Ewww!
Kevin started working on the lighting, he had to put in a bunch of can lights in the living room and move the lights above the bar and remove the old ones (that is what he is doing here).

His adoring audience ;)

There were only TWO. LIGHTS. IN. THE. LIVING ROOM. Really. The black patch is tape from when Kevin took out the old nasty brass can lights and the lights there now are the new ones.

In the process of adding can lights

Look at the beautiful ceiling. Just look at it!!

full shot, and all lights done! Ready for wood.
